Concept paper Webinar: “Amoris Laetitia and family formation at the age of education: Does adequate housing play a role?” : The problem of student accommodation particularly at the level of University and Graduate Schools causes increasing concerns for young people and society at large. The Barcelona Chapter of the CAPPF is carrying out a study on the issue with quite relevant and promising results that will be presented at the Webinar. On the occasion of the Synod of the Family that has been convened at the Vatican in October 2026, we would like to organize a Webinar and discuss the progress made by the Barcelona Chapter study. We wish also to link it to the issue of family formation of young people. We are seeing in advanced modern societies both a trend of increasing the number of years spent in the educational system, and a trend of growing age for people to form a family. Are those trends related? And/or could they fruitfully interact enabling both more investment in education and more opportunities for family formation? This would imply however that facilities and resources would be provided for young people to form families also in their 20’s (rather than only later), i.e. when they attend graduate schools or specialization courses. Is this feasible? How much would it cost? Would the welfare system be able to extend its reach towards education, the young couples, etc.? What kind of partnerships between public and private resources should be mobilized? We would like to convene a webinar to discuss the set of issues above asking demographers, social scientists, educators, psychologists and experts in Catholic Social Teaching to contribute. We would also like to review the experience of Colleges and educational systems, which have been and are able to provide accommodation for married students, pointing out challenges and positive outcomes.
