Centesimus Annus pro Pontifice Foundation: Paolo Garonna is the new President
Prof. Paolo Garonna succeeds Prof. Anna Maria Tarantola, former Deputy Director General of the Bank of Italy and President of RAI, as President of the Centesimus Annus pro Pontifice Foundation. Prof. Tarantola had been a member of the Foundation’s Board of Directors since November 2015 and President of the Foundation since March 2019. Noting Prof. Tarantola’s intention not to renew her term of office for personal reasons, the Vatican authorities appointed Paolo Garonna as President, who has been a member of the Foundation’s Scientific Committee since 2008. Paolo Garonna is Professor of Economic Policy at LUISS Guido Carli University in Rome. A graduate of La Sapienza University in Rome, he then studied and conducted research in the United States (University of Denver) and Great Britain (University of Cambridge). Among other things, he has been Deputy Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, Director General of ISTAT, Chief Economist of Confindustria, and Secretary General of the Federation of Banks, Insurance Companies, and Finance. He is the author of studies and publications on the Social Doctrine of the Church, economics, and finance.
