Dear ecclesiastical counsellors, dear founders, members and friends of the Foundation,
It is with great respect, humility and a sense of responsibility that I address my greetings to you as I take on the role of President of the Centesimus Annus Pro Pontifice Foundation. I have for long followed with interest and participation the activities of our Foundation, with appreciation for the progress made, the growth in its activities, and the recognition of its authorative role in promoting, developing and spreading the Social Teaching of the Church.
My first commitment will be to continue and consolidate these important achievements for which I am grateful to all of you and especially to the presidents, general secretaries and ecclesiastical counsellors who have preceded us. This work has required and will require the shared and active contribution of each and all of you, to bring to all walks of life and to every corner of the globe the Church’s message of salvation and moral guidance.
There is today a growing demand for the Social Teaching of the Church, not only within but also outside the community of believers. The context in which we operate, moreover, is that of an economy and a society torn by vulnerabilities, divisions and conflicts but also rich in new opportunities for integral human development and universal brotherhood.
“Spes non confundit”, hope does not disappoint, Pope Francis reminded us in the words of the Apostle Paul in proclaiming the solemn Jubilee that is about to start. With the contribution of all of you, to whom I appeal, we will endeavor to carry this message of hope, faith and charity throughout the world and over all the fears and issues, old and new, that the economy, society and the institutions present to us today. The universal values on which the strength and cohesion of our community is based will sustain us in facing the challenges of evangelization and the dialogue, and in supporting the Holy Father’s pastoral action for peace and economic and social development.
I would like to thank you in advance wholeheartedly for your commitment and support.
With esteem, affection and gratitude,
Paolo Garonna
President of the Centesimus Annus Pro Pontifice Foundation
