{"id":13873,"date":"2021-03-08T12:33:20","date_gmt":"2021-03-08T11:33:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.centesimusannus.org\/?page_id=13873"},"modified":"2021-12-09T17:56:50","modified_gmt":"2021-12-09T16:56:50","slug":"next-meeting-15th-march-please-save-the-date","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.centesimusannus.va\/en\/activities\/locals\/uk\/next-meeting-15th-march-please-save-the-date\/","title":{"rendered":"Next Meeting 15th March &#8211; Please save the date"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dear all,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Please save the date for our next meeting, which will be held on the evening of\u00a0<strong>15th March, from 6 &#8211; 7:30pm.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A calendar invite will follow.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dr. Maurice Glasman (Lord Glasman) will be our speaker.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Our theme will be :<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><em>The meaning of work, the dignity of labour, and the family as the fundamental cell of society<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>The spiritual and economic meaning and value of work according to Catholic social thought<\/li>\n<li>The respective role of government and other organisations in determining and ensuring a just\/living wage<\/li>\n<li>Guilds, apprenticeships, unions and SMEs vs multinational corporations<\/li>\n<li>Work, marriage and the family as ingredients for a fulfilled life<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The discussion will revolve around how the pandemic, and more especially, the policy response, have created unprecedented challenges for workers, blue-collar and white-collar alike &#8211; and how CST principles can help restore some kind of equilibrium.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Preparatory readings will be circulated later this wee<\/strong>k.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lord Glasman<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dr. Maurice Glasman is an English political theorist, academic, social commentator, and Labour life peer in the House of Lords. He is a senior lecturer in Political Theory at London Metropolitan University and Director of its Faith and Citizenship Programme.\u00a0 Prior to becoming a peer, Baron Glasman worked for ten years for London Citizens on their Living Wage campaign. He is widely known for establishing \u201cBlue Labour\u201d, a conservative form of socialism within the Labour party which encourages a return to community values based on trade unions, the Church and voluntary groups.
