Dilexi te: A gaze upon the Poor

Dilexi te: A gaze upon the Poor

In the Apostolic Exhortation Dilexi te, Pope Leo XIV places the focus on the poor as a fundamental priority for the renewal of society. The document, consisting of 121 paragraphs, was signed on October 4, the feast of St. Francis of Assisi. The title Dilexi te (I have loved you) is drawn from the Book of Revelation (Rev 3:9). The cry of the most vulnerable challenges everyone, yet the responses remain inadequate in the face of growing inequality. The exhortation calls us to recognize in the faces of the poor “the suffering of the innocent”. In continuity with the magisterium of Pope Francis, the text recalls his final reflections on the Church’s care “for the poor and with the poor”.
