Attività Chapter Canada

With the support of members of an earlier Montreal-based chapter, a renewed Canada-wide chapter was established shortly after Pope Francis’ historic July 2022 penitential pilgrimage to Canada, in which he asked forgiveness on behalf of the Church for harmful past actions and inactions that were primarily failures to act consistently with Catholic Social Teaching principles. Articles and editorials published in leading francophone and anglophone Catholic newspapers highlighted the timeliness and timelessness of CAPP’s mission in this regard. The virtual launch event, held on September 22, included CAPP Chairwoman Anna Maria Tarantola as a keynote, and helped inspire new people to join the chapter.

Building on the successful relaunch, CAPP-Canada hosted virtual webinar series in 2023 and 2023/24, and a first in-person event in Toronto in November 2023. A strategic planning process was also started to discern how best to fulfill the CAPP mission in the Canadian context, in a spirit of fidelity, subsidiarity and solidarity – collaborating with chapters around the world under the direction of the Foundation. This process is ongoing, amidst new and emerging pilot projects and a first signature CAPP-Canada program: the Lumen Gentium Forum, started in September 2024 for young Catholic professionals.
